What is Project Swim?
Project Swim began in 2011, following the drowning of six youths in Shreveport in 2010. Since the program’s inception, all surviving members of Warner and Stewart families, who lost family members in the 2010 incident, have learned to swim
The project is funded through a grant from the Fannie and John Hertz Foundation. The Hertz
Foundation has underwritten the program since its inception, contributing more than $475,000.
These donations underwrite the cost of lifeguards and swim lessons. More than 14,000 Shreveport citizens have learned to swim through Project Swim. Evaluation improvement rate from the start of lessons to completion is 99.3%.

The number of African-American lifeguards at Rock Solid has increased from 8% of total staff
to 30% of total staff since 2011.
