Volunteer Program

SPAR has a constant need for volunteers to help provide the programs and events offered by SPAR to the citizens and visitors of the City of Shreveport.  For information on the many great volunteer opportunities with SPAR, contact the Community Center/Park of your choice.  SPAR has fifteen (15) community centers throughout the city.  To learn more about SPAR or for help locating a facility, call us at 318.673.7737.

Each prospective volunteer is required to complete a confidential Volunteer Application and Disclosure/Authorization Form.  All volunteers must also pass a background check.

Types of Volunteer Opportunities

Park Advisory Council Member (PAC)

The SPAR Parks Advisory Council is made up of members (Volunteers), such as neighborhood residents, program users, and residents from community organizations.  They serve as an advisory liason group between the community patrons and the respective SPAR communiter center/park.  PAC members provide recommendations in respect to recreational programming, standard operations and maintenance concerns of the SPAR community center/park

After-School Program

SPAR's After-School Programs are operated at each of its 15 community centers.  The programs serve kids age 6 - 17 and operates Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 6:00 PM.  The program provides a safe haven for youth to focus on education, positive recreation and life skills.  Activities include homework assistance, games, sports, arts & crafts, field trips, life skills classes and other exciting activities.  Volunteers are needed to help serve as inspirational mentors, tutors, coaches, etc.  For more information, call Darrell English, Youth Cordinator at 318.213.0430.

Senior Program

Many of SPAR's community centers offer Senior Programs.  SPAR offers a myriad of programs and special events for the enjoyment of our SPAR Seniors.  Activities include aerobics, arts & crafts, computer classes, social dancing, quilting, sewing, beanbag baseball, Wii games, and other great activities to help keep our seniors in good physical and mental health.  For more information on volunteer opportunities in our Senior Program, call Camille Webb, Senior Coordinator at 318.673.7845. 

Athletics

SPAR offers a variety of athletic activities which run throughout the year.  We offer basketball. softball, football, basketball, baseball, t-ball, machine pitch baseball, weightlifting, soccer, track & field and numerous other sports.  If you like sports and would like to serve as a head coach, assistant coach, and/or serve as a team Mom/Dad, contact SPAR Athletics at 318.673.7749.

Therapeutic Program

Geared toward the physically and mentally challenged individuals, our Therapeuic Program offers our volunteers the opportunity to make a difference.  Volunteer assist in special events, field trips, the Adaptive Daycare Program and more.  For more information on volunteer opportunities in our Therapeutic Program, call Germaine Williams, Therapeutic Superintendant, at 318.673.7873.
